We investigated, through sketches and illustrations, a series of shapes for the new elements making sure they complemented each other avoiding the cliché forms for lofts and extensions. The internal arrangement and ground floor developed into a slightly unusual layout that is perfect for the lifestyle of our clients and has received a lot of praise from those that have seen it. Bringing typically back of house areas into the main circulation space but carefully designing the fitted furniture, we have delivered a really practical and stylish piece of design leaving the living spaces clear and spacious. This is complemented by a brilliant kitchen by our friends at Casa Life, St Albans.
The exterior comprises a part pitched, part flat rear extension with angled glazed elements flooding the dining and seating areas with light, bringing height to the spaces. Soft timber cladding is juxtaposed against dark grey aluminium cladding and finishing. The overall aesthetic is of warm minimalism.
We focused on storage and geometry, light and glass throughout. The house is now a calm and comfortable space with interesting places to sit and relax, work and entertain.
