To celebrate our move to Richmond, this week we’re launching our very first 50 Degrees North competition!

For your chance to win a visit to the recently restored Turner’s House in St Margaret’s followed by a delicious lunch for two at The Bingham on Richmond Hill simply follow the instructions on our Twitter, Facebook or Instagram pages.

If you’re planning a home renovation project either now or in the future this is a great opportunity to enjoy and be inspired by our local architectural heritage at Sandycombe Lodge and then take a stroll over Richmond Bridge and lunch in The Bingham’s wonderfully relaxing setting. The prize will provide our lucky winners with a chance to take time out from their busy schedules to think about the changes they’d like to make to create their dream home.

Considering a typical 50 Degrees North project takes around 6 months from initial brief to the build start date, briefing your architect in Autumn can often lead to a desirable spring time build.

Turner’s House

Sandycombe Lodge was built by 1813 to the designs of England’s great landscape painter, J.M.W. Turner; working here as his own architect to create a quiet retreat for himself, away from the pressures of the London art world. It also provided a home for his father, old William, in retirement from his trade as a barber and wigmaker in Covent Garden. With old William’s declining health and changes in his own life, Turner sold the house in 1826.

Conservation of Sandycombe Lodge was completed in the Summer of 2017, with its brickwork beautifully restored, and all the results of careful conservation study and craftsmanship visible in the joinery, plasterwork and paint finishes. We hope that our competition winners will enjoy the experience of discovering this lovely little building and learning more about the life and work of JMW Turner, one of England’s greatest painters before enjoying a delicious lunch in Richmond at The Bingham.

The Bingham

The Bingham nestles along the towpath between Richmond Bridge and Petersham Meadows. Built as two Georgian houses in 1740 and described in a survey by George III as a “message (a dwelling), court and garden” and a “message with stables and coach house”. It’s one of London’s most unexpected boutique hotels overlooking the Thames, a gourmet bolthole, once home to nobility and poets. Our competition winners will enjoy The Bingham’s delicious, fresh and light seasonal market lunch for two which is served Monday to Saturday 12-2.30pm.
